You've got to protect your 'self-care' time...from YOURSELF.
As a woman that is always busy rushing, working, toiling, caring for and in general "doing", I made a promise to myself to carve out more "me time" to do something that I enjoy doing. With a bookshelf full of books I've had good intentions of reading and no time for, this sounded like the perfect opportunity.
So I made a plan.
I set my alarm for 30 minutes earlier than usual.
I brewed my coffee.
I picked the book I wanted to read most.
I found my cozy spot.
I was ready! (Or so I thought)
That is until I entered the picture.
I found myself trying to take care of all sorts of 'one more' things. One more dish, one more load of laundry, one more thing that needed straightened, one more task I put off yesterday, the list goes on and on. Here I thought I had to protect my time from everyone else when the reality was I was the one doing the sabotaging and I needed to protect my self-care time from MYSELF. I need to be selfish with that time and that is way harder than it sounds!
So, I chose to write instead, recognizing and acknowledging that I do it. Then I will give myself grace 'one more' time and make a better plan to try again tomorrow (full of glorious and intentional selfishness).
Take care of you, but be sure YOU aren't what is getting in the way.
